Broadband Speeds
Broadband speeds in rural villages can be notoriously variable and Wistow is no exception to the rule.

Colin McLeod living in the village recently wrote to this website with his broadband experiences in the village:
"I would be interested to hear if anybody besides myself suffers from a very poor broadband speed. I have frequently gone through hoops to get my line re-set even then, top whack is 2.5 meg but slowly over a period of weeks it slides ever slower to an abysmal 125k. If there are perhaps we could share comments and experiences!"
According to Colin's IP address he appears to be using PlusNet.
Myself I use Zen Internet on the original ADSL system with a maximum quoted connection speed of 1Mbps and get a consistent and reliable 920kbps.
You can check your download speed using BT's online speed tester.
Broadband speeds can be affected by many things from faulty micro-filters, poor wiring in your home down to budget providers who just can't cope with the network capacity when everyone goes online after work...
In the meantime, the government is currently pushing for faster broadband speeds and in particular getting everyone in rural areas on broadband. If you want to try and help get faster broadband speeds for Wistow, please register your interest at EREBUS (Eastern Region Broadband Uplift Scheme): www.erebusonline.org.uk.
To this aim, we are also trying to get a feel for people's current experiences with broadband in the village. What are your experiences, and who do you use?
Any response that we receive will be added to the bottom of this article for all to see, so that you can compare speeds of various ISPs throughout the village.

Cable Option
Apparently you can request fibre optic cable to be laid in your street by e-mailing Viirgin media at cablemystreet@virginmedia.co.uk, stating your postcode and address. However, like any other supplier I suspect they would require a minimum number of potential subscribers in the area before even contemplating laying new cable. In the meantime, the government is currently pushing for faster broadband speeds and in particular getting everyone in rural areas on broadband.
