As spring has sprung and the plants begin to grow, spare a thought for the birds nesting before hacking your hedge.
As the growing season begins in springtime, your hedges may begin to look a little unkempt, but before you decide to give your hedge a short back and sides, spare a thought for the birds.
Farmers are required not to cut or trim their hedgerows between 01 March and 31 July each year during the main breeding season of most birds, unless the hedge is diseased or overhanging a public right of way.
So why not do likewise and give the wildlife a fighting chance. After all, we all love to hear the birdsong in the garden during the summer months.
